The Mental Health First Aid International and the University of Melbourne developed a comprehensive, evidence-based framework on mental health first aid guidelines for individuals living with eating disorders.
Theresa (Dr. MC) contributed recommendations to this three-part study as a lived experience advocate. Advocates, caretakers, and mental health professionals from 10 countries provided their expertise.
The guidelines are designed to help members of the public support someone who may be developing or experiencing an eating disorder. The role of a first aider is to assist an individual until they can receive appropriate professional care. The guidelines debunk common misconceptions, explain hidden symptoms, offer conversation starters and strategies, and share how someone can provide ongoing support.
These guidelines epitomize empathy balanced with sustainability, encouraging everyone involved to prioritize their well-being.
